Olof Olsson, project leader. Olof is a biologist and has many years experience working with seabirds in the Arctic and Antarctic. He did his PhD on King penguin ecology with the British Antarctic Survey at the island of South Georgia, South Atlantic Ocean. Olof started the Baltic Seabird project in 1997 and leads the project together with Henrik Österblom.

Olof is Deputy Director of Stockholm Resilience Centre at Stockholm University where research forms part of his work. His research interest is mainly in trophic interactions in marine ecosystems and seabird life-history and behaviour ecology.

Henrik Österblom, project leader. Henrik has a background in marine ecology. His PhD was based on research in the Baltic Seabird project and focused on the effects of fisheries and fish stock dynamics on marine birds. Henrik works as a researcher and science-policy coordinator at Baltic Nest Institute and Stockholm Resilience Centre. He co-leads the research theme “Governance and ecosystem management of coastal and marine systems” and his research focuses on food-web interactions, trophic cascades and ecosystem regime shifts, as well as governance of marine resources.

Between April 2009 and June 2010, Henrik is doing his post-doc at Fisheries Centre, University of British Columbia, Canada, supervised by Professor Rashid Sumaila.

Martina Kadin, project coordinator. Martina is a marine biologist and joined the Baltic Seabird project in 2006. Her MSc thesis work was focused on sexual maturation and survival of immature common guillemots in the Baltic Sea. Martina is a PhD student at Stockholm Resilience Centre and the Department of Systems Ecology, Stockholm University. Her PhD studies focuses on the interaction between seabirds and pelagic fish, including the importance of food abundance and food quality as well as response diversity in the Baltic Sea.

Martina is responsible for field work conducted on Stora Karlsö. Contact her if you have any practical questions concerning the research.

Ebba Willerström, project assistant. Ebba has a background in marine ecology and her MSc thesis concerned the decrease in blubber thickness in Baltic grey seals. She has been working with the Baltic Seabird project since 2008. In addition to performing field work Ebba coordinates project activities outside the field season and writes applications and annual reports.
